Keyboard Support Stand
This device was designed for a young boy with cerebral palsy who typed on his laptop with his upper lip. He had to lower his head to push the buttons and raise his head to see the screen. With this movement, the client’s neck became strained because of the constant up-and-down motions. Therefore, UVATT designed an adjustable support stand that could rise and fall while being tilted. This stand straddled the keyboard of the laptop, positioning the keyboard closer to the screen and angling it so it minimized the amount of neck movement.
Automatic Laptop Opening Device
The purpose of this device was to make the opening and closing of laptops easier for people with severe physical disabilities. Two types of devices were designed. One was a mechanical toggle switch that opened the laptop with a push. The other switch was electronic and responded to a universal remote control. This laptop opener is particularly useful for people with powered wheelchairs who need to close their laptops in order to have an unobstructed view when moving.
